Hello.
I've got a question about system requirements of Kerio Control 7.3.2

We are using Kerio Control for some time and issuing some serious performance problems.
Kerio is installed on PC with Core2Duo 4400, 2Gb DDR2 RAM, Windows Server 2003.
We have over 4k connections simultaneously, 400-500 clients, CPU load is near 100%, and still can't use all of bandwith our provider gave us (15MBbits/s of 40 MBits/s used).

I want to upgrade PC with Kerio, but i don't know what part i should upgrade -- is it CPU or RAM, or both. Which processor could handle such load?

Sorry for poor english.
Any help will be appreciated.

Hello AV-CH,

Welcome to the forums. Is there a reason why you have stayed on 7.3.2? Also have you considered using the software appliance of Kerio Control? This runs on a Linux distro and generally it does tend to perform better than the Windows setups.

In regards to hardware for your current machine 2GHz processor and 2GB RAM wouldn't hurt to have an update as it should also make the PC perform better but when you have that many users connecting in at one time it would be worth trying the software appliance (if possible). If you download a copy you get a 30 day trial so you could give it a test and see if this helps at all.

Also here is a link to the hardware version of the firewall we do:

http://www.kerio.com/control/control-box

It might be worth having a box that is 100% fully dedicated to just being a firewall.

All the best,
Vicky

Thank you.

We'll consider a migration to software appliance. Is it 64- or 32-bit version? It uses his own linux kernel or should be installed on *NIX system?

And thank you again for your response Smile

Hi,

The software appliance is 32 bit and it uses a version of Linux that the developers have catered for Control. There is a lot of information about moving from Windows to the software appliance at this link:

http://kb.kerio.com/1332

It also gives you more information about the software appliance as well. Have a read through and see what you think.

All the best,
Vicky

v8 is rock solid.. v7 still rely on Windows system stability..

the connectivity is way better with appliance (even Virtual) versus Windows based Kerio.

We have about 100 users and hit 90% CPU at 300Mbps (~37.5MBps).
We are running v8.1.0 appliance on an old IBM server (AMD Athlon 64 3500+, with 2.5GB RAM and 4 NIC).

Hope this helps.
