We have a domain on a server that wants to use IM, and we have setup the SRV records, when I run the "Check Service Availability", for that particular domain, the XMPP Ping colums shows an 'X'. I'm able to telnet to the ports from a remote system. It shows that the ping request was sent to kerio.com, but it timed out waiting for the reply.

You did not write here on which port are you able to telnet IM server from remote system. It must be the server one - 5269. If the ping test still fails, tell me the domain name and I will check your DNS records.

I was able to telnet to 5222, 5223 and 5269. Though I have since found that the database files were not being written properly, had to change the ulimit to 8192 files. But still unable to establish an IM session on this server. The domain is initium-llc.com.

If haven't successfully used IM feature yet (there is no danger of loosing user data) I would recommend you to delete 'store/xmpp/database' folder and then restart Kerio Connect server. The folder gets recreated and IM service should work fine.

Please send me debug/warning/error logs and also logs from 'store/xmpp/logs' folder if the issue still persist. You can use you preferable sharing service or the link I have sent you in PM.

It appears that you have not setup your DNS with the SRV records necessary to IM to work. Please see this KB article with the instructions:
