What is the preferred method to set up Apple Mail, 6.6 on 10.8.5 to Connect, 8.1.3, IMAP with CalDAV & CardDAV or as an Exchange account with ActiveSync?

Apple Mail does not know or support ActiveSync.
Preferred (and supported) method is to run the auto-configuration tool from the Integrations page to set up IMAP+CalDAV+CardDAV accounts.
Exchange account (EWS) is not supported in Kerio Connect.

Then how does Apple Mail, Calendar and Contacts communication with an Exchange server, not Exchange IMAP?
