I see that 2.2.0 has capabilities to upload images to some of the phones. I also see that the snom phones are not currently supported with this feature. The phones do allow an image to be uploaded though. They call it the background image. Is there any way of incorporating this feature into Operator?

The idle-screen image needs to be stored as base64 within an xml file on a webserver.

The setting to push out to the Snom phones is:

user_xml_screen_url1!: http://mycompany.com/idle-screen.xml

Unfortunately the idle screen generator at http://snom.provoip.co.uk/idle-screen/generator/does not seem to be working right now.

Originally you would just upload the required image and the xml file would be created for you.

My XML file looks like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<screen_description> <Image>
<Data encoding="base64">

ALL THE BASE64 DATA FOR MY IMAGE

</Data>
<LocationX>0</LocationX>
<LocationY>0</LocationY>
<Invert>0</Invert>
</Image>
<SoftKeys>
<LocationX>0</LocationX>
<LocationY>0</LocationY>
</SoftKeys>
</screen_description>

Hi,

have you tried to actually configure the idle screen? I have and basically you loose all navigation buttons and text on the screen. All that you can configure is date and time. It looks so ugly!

The other way is to customize the whole theme, it is called branding <http://wiki.snom.com/Category:HowTo:Branding>. Basically, you have to download a tar archive from snom.com with various images, change the background and upload it to the phone. We can't do it for you in Operator, because different snom fw versions require different archive contents. Then there are licensing details, etc.

So for now, I've decided not to include any support for snom logos/backgrounds. In the future, I would like to allow you to upload a prepared tar archive with images. The question is whether users will be able to prepare it.

I just have a company logo on the idle screen. People thought that was pretty cool.

I have it configured so that the user taps on the company logo to get to the buttons. (I guess that's an extra tap but it has been like this since day-1 and no-one has complained)

Whenever ANY extension on the network is active the idle screens automatically change to show the softkeys/shortcut keys so users can see who is active.

I have not looked into the branding options, since the default works fine for us.

Cheers,

ft.

Thank you for the feedback. It seems that I will have to take a look at the touch screen model again then. On the non-touch screens you loose everything and the screen looks like this: http://wiki.snom.com/XML/Idle_Screen/Background_Image

My phones are Snom 870 with touchscreen.

I choose to display only the company logo, but there are other options that can be defined in the xml file. You can add tags for any of the following:

<Image>: Embed image
<Line>: Current outgoing line/identity
<Clock>
<DigitalClock>
<Date>
<Status>
<SoftKeys>
