howdy

every now and then... seemingly at random.. some users are receiving duplicate emails

this happens in both outlook 2011 and... correspondingly in kerio webmail

any reason this would be happening.. and.. anything i can do to prevent it happening in the future

thanks

Check if messages are sent by Outlook 2011. It can repeat message sending if there is too long response from the server. Typically if user doesn't have synchronized "Sent Items" folder or this folder is locked by other client. In this case sent message cannot be copied to the Sent Items folder and timeout occurs. You can archive the content of this folder or configure clean-out in WAM.

What client send the message?
Whether it has been sent once or twice?

Ask the sender. Sender's server/client sent the message twice.

hmm.... not really

this has been happening for the past few weeks

no real pattern

we are now sometimes receiving triplicates

it is not from just 1 sender... but happening with different senders

not sure if it is related to our upgrade to 8.2.. but it certainly seems to coincide with that

given that it is happening with various senders.. at random times.. to different recipients.. surely all of these senders / senders mail servers.. have not.. all of a sudden.. decided to send duplicates

It could be caused by your firewall or antivirus with SMTP inspection as well.
Enable SMTP server debug logging to get more information.

They may be different senders, but if they are all using the same service provider, which seems to be obsmtp.com (Google?) in your example, it would explain your observation.
At least your log shows two deliveries: the Sender-Host is exprod7og102.obsmtp.com for the first delivery, folloowed by a second delivery via exprod7og129.obsmtp.com
