We currently use a Mac Pro about 6 years old running Mac OS 10.5 our store is on 2 1TB internal drives mirrored so we have a failsafe. I am looking to upgrade the hardware to something newer and looking for reccomendations.

It seems Mac Minis are the only way to go but their internal storage is not sufficient I dont think as they run on small 2.5" drives.

I was thinking of having a mac mini with some kind of thunderbolt link to some kind of Raid system. Ideally I would have 2TB of storage space, although we currently only have 750GB of data on there.

What do other mac users have?

Hello Andrewrob,

This page gives our recommended system requirements:

A decent spec Mac Mini with plenty of RAM should work fine.

You might prefer to run the standard Mac OS, rather than a server version.

I hope that helps.

Best regards,

Neil.

Thanks. I was wondering about storage, and getting a big enough drive. Do you think one of these would do the job, mirrored so I get failsafe:

Whilst we can't formally endorse any third party products, if you search out the product reviews and it checks out OK, spec-wise it should do the job.

Mac Mini plus thunderbolt storage is pretty good. If you don't need it to run any Server services then just get a regular mini with the i7 upgrade and plenty of ram.

For the last couple years we've had positive experiences using mac minis for servers with Promise thunderbolt raids.

You may choose to run the OS on the internal drive and have the storage on Promise.

Cheers.
