howdy

for the 3rd time now my spam assassin has stopped working

one minute it appears to be working... busily learning away... next minute.... it shows that i have:
messages leaned as spam: 0
messages leaned as not spam: 0

i have removed the spamAssasin files from the following folder:
/usr/local/kerio/mailserver/plugins/spamserver/spamassassin/

(however.. instructions from kerio says that the folder should be at this location: /usr/local/kerio/mailserver/plugins/spamassassin/)

reinstalled 8.2.2... and logged in to take a look at spamAssassin.. and now i have the following:
filter status: learning
messages leaned as spam: 0
messages leaned as not spam: 0

i have tagged about 100 emails manually as spam... rechecked the spamAssassin tab... still zero everywhere

please can someone shed some light on what i need to do to get this working again... as we seem to be swimming in a sea of spam.. AND.. let me know what i need to do to prevent this from happening again

HUGE thanks in advance

thanks

i have followed the istructions.. restarted kerio.. and the spamAssassin tab now says:
filter status: learning
messages leaned as spam: 0
messages leaned as not spam: 0

how long before i start to see that it is active... and the 2 numbers start to increase above 0

is there anyway for me to tell whether or not the spammAssassin plugin is working (logs, debu log etc?)

also

if i tag a piece of email in either outlook 2011 or in the webmail client as spam... does that help with this spammAssassin

is it better to be doing it in the web client.. or outlook... or is it the same

thanks again

Yes indeed - better through the webmail interface.

And you can check the error log to see if spamassassin has stopped running.

thanks for the replies

so.... it is a week later

i have been furiously trying to stay on top of the spam (loosing battle)... tagging thousands of emails a day in both outlook and webMail

i still have the following in the spamAssassin tab of the web admin

filter status: learning
messages leaned as spam: 0
messages leaned as not spam: 0

what is going on.... why does it not appear to be working

anything else i can do... this is driving me nutz

thanks

[07/Feb/2014 03:58:13][4505092096] {spamassassin} Perl_stderr: [14021] dbg: bayes: _get_db_version: SQL error: database disk image is malformed

[07/Feb/2014 03:58:13][4505092096] {spamassassin} Perl_stderr: bayes: database version 0 is different than we understand (3), aborting! at /usr/local/kerio/mailserver/plugins/spamserver/spamassassin/ site/lib/Mail/SpamAssassin/BayesStore/SQLite.pm line 101.

looks like there is some access problem to the database. What size does bayes.db have? If you have sqlite3 installed: can you access the database using it? Did you check the filesystem?

thanks for the reply

bayes.db = 24.7mb

it is dated Dec 20 2013

the auto-whitelist.db shows todays date

they both appear to have the same permissions

i deleted it recently as part of the whole... let's get spamassassin up and running after it funked out

i am running 8.2.2 on a mac running 10.6.8

is there anything else i can check....

thanks again for all

i have removed the spamAssasin files from the following folder:
/usr/local/kerio/mailserver/plugins/spamserver/spamassassin/

(however.. instructions from kerio says that the folder should be at this location: /usr/local/kerio/mailserver/plugins/spamassassin/)

It looks like you have removed the wrong folder. You should remove the folder that contains the DB, not the one that contains the program files. According to the Kerio KB, for a Mac, this is:

/usr/local/kerio/mailserver/store/spamassassin/Bayes

looks like i deleted the wrong folder the Ist time round

have deleted the folder as per above... and it appears that things are working again

it is learning... but.. i can actually see the numbers increase

HUGE thanks again for everyone's input

hopefully this will help stem the tide of spam that we have been getting since it all funked out
