We (a medium-sized business) want to store all mail centrally on our Connect server to make it accessible from any device with webmail/IMAP/POP access. Two reasons:
  • Cheap integrity: to keep all of the business' mail safe, only the mail server needs to be backed up.
  • Searchability: we want all employees to be able to use Connect's full text search feature instead of having to search in a POP3 client's storage.

Problem: the business currently uses a wide variety of different POP mail clients, most of which are configured to delete e-mail from the Connect server after fetching them. This means the responsibility of storing e-mail is moved from the Kerio server to the mail client's storage. But as said above we want to keep everything on the mailserver!

As the results of my Googling suggest, the above problem can be solved by configuring the POP mail clients not to delete email from the server after fetching it. However, given the size and complexity of this business it's highly impractical to manually configure each employee's mailclient(s) not to remove mail from the server. Switching to IMAP overnight is not an option because of the same reason.

Therefore, we would like to configure the Kerio Connect server to simply disallow deleting mail from the server after fetching it with POP. Is there an option or workaround to do this?

Thanks!

I'm sorry but the only workaround is to change the clients. Either configuration of POP3 or migration to IMAP or migration to other clients such as Kerio Connect client.

Okay, that's a shame, but thanks for the clarity!

If you have a need to retain all messages on the server (maybe for legal reasons?) you could switch on archiving on the KC server. You will have a copy of each email in the archive folders.

Ditch POP3. Make this easy on yourself. POP3 is old tech and it's nothing but a pain.
