Hi,

currently we are setting up the chat functionality of Kerio. The Check Service Accessibility has a positive result. The services instant messaging 5222 and 5223 are working. The ports on your firewall configured, but I can't connect on port 5222 or 5223.

telnet mailbox.domain.de 5222
Trying 192.168.254.20...
telnet: connect to address 192.168.254.20: Operation timed out
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host

What other steps can I do to get things running

best regards

Jens

The check service accessibility procedure checks only DNS records and IM server-service (federation) connectivity if enabled. It is still possible that IM client-services (ports 5222 and 5223) are not accessible even if check services has positive results.

What version of Kerio Connect are you using on what platform?
Does error/warning log contain any hints that IM services don't work correctly?
Enable Instant Messaging debug log. Does it contain any warnings/errors?

Cheers,
Tomas Skoda

Hi Tomas,

here we use Kerio Connect 8.3.1 on Debian 6.0.9. The debug log contains no warnings and/or errors. In which log files else we have to look for warnings and/or errors? Is it possible to test with telnet the kerio IM service on port 5222?

Best regards and sleep tight Wink

Jens

The debug.log looks like as follow:
root<_at_>mailbox:/opt/kerio/mailserver/store/logs# cat debug.log

Yes it is possible to telnet it on both default ports. The log snapshot looks ok, there are no problems neither with services nor with domains.

- Can you telnet it from the machine where it is installed (on localhost)? Have you double checked that local firewall isn't blocking its ports? What output produces command 'iptables -n -L' executed with admin rights?

- You can also check files in 'store/xmpp/logs' folder. Are there any lines containing 'Exception' ?

Hi Tomas,

sorry for being late. Telnet from localhost is possible. It seems that the local firewall is blocking the ports. How can we handel this matter?

best regards

Jens

If you're using Connect Virtual Appliance, read http://kb.kerio.com/784 for details about changing firewall settings and adding a new port (5222, 5223 or 5296).
If you've installed this system yourself, consult Debian manuals for firewall setting.
