Hi. First post. Reducing user's mailbox size.

Looked at the forums and found a few differing comments on performance of Kerio 8.2.4 at the client end (Apple Mail).

Running server on a Mac Mini 10.8.5, 2.6GHz i7, 16GB RAM, 4TB Thunderbolt G-Tech Raid box.

Main user at 22GB needs all e-mail from any device worldwide (No local Archive).

So my idea was to split her 22GB mailbox into two separate mailboxes. One with work 24 months old or older, the other all the current within 2 year work. Seeing as she will only use the new ones 95% of the time she will only be accessing one smaller e-mail account.

Is this plausible?

All comments welcome.

Thanks,

Simon.

Simon my only tip, having had to do similar for my users, is do it all offline,
using the finder.

in my case: 4 users, all with YEARS of mail, all exceeding the advised 10,000 per box rule, most with 60,000+ message inboxes, ALL wanting ALL mail EVERYWHERE!

went into each users active mail account (via web interface) and created sub folders for year, month, topic etc.

stopped the mail server (System Prefs/Kerio/STOP)

manually shuffled the messages around using the finder (<10K per box)

fired the server backup (System Prefs/Kerio/START)

reindexed each user via the webadmin

...think thats how I remember it. Can be more specific if you need details

Franklin Covey has a great class on how to handle e-mail. You might suggest they take that class. Smile

Thanks so much for replying, it's a plan I will progress with.

Not straight way, but will report back here when I start the project.

I stumbled across a set of perl scripts that allows the splitting mailboxs without shutting down the server. Use it for customers who cannot keep message counts under 10,000.

@havinabubble

If you could send me the specifics I would really appreciate it.

simonf<_at_>me.com

Or post them here. It's the top boss's mailbox here who I need to trim down.

Can't afford a slip up Smile Thank you.
