I have working 24x7x365 Kerio Connect. Backups (which made by Kerio Connect) store on local disk. With rsync from remote host I copy these backups to backup server. But in order to have 100% ready for replacement server, I must have up-to-date /mail folder on backup server.

Is it good idea to copy mail folder with rsync without stopping the primary mail server? As for me, no problem. But... ?

Hi Ilya,

In support we normally tell customers to not have anything touch the Kerio store. As we have seen other 3rd party backup software cause issues such as locking files and folders along with triggering mass re-indexes.

We do have some people using R-Sync and normally do not have a problem with it but it is not recommended that you use Rsync to touch the live Mail Store. However it is fine to use Rsync with the backup folder.

All the best,
Vicky

Using Rsync is almost a requirement after the message store hits a certain size..

A normal backup takes about 22 hours and of course by then the backup is just a fallback.

We use Rsync and it takes about 30 minutes to update the main backup.

We have in the past ran multiple differential Kerio backups in the day ( 10 2 4 ) to minimize our exposure.

As always your mileage may vary..

What do you think, if I use rsync over ssh (without local rsync server on kerio connect server) from remote host, can rsync lock file when copying?

rsync -avz -e "ssh -p 22" --progress bck_user@Kerio_Connect_Server:/store/backup/ /data/archive/

The same time takes me to copy backup files (via rsync over ssh) made by Kerio Connect.
