Hello,
We are on Kerio Connect 8.2.4, recently our server been sending out this error 553 5.1.8 Sender rejected by address filters to some .eu domains even though the messages were delivered.
Does anyone has any ideas?

Thanks,

Jimmy

This is indeed a message from Kerio Connect, but the exact message is:

553 5.1.8 Sender address rejected by address filter

It happens when you have a Spam rule that rejects messages based on sender address.

In the Web Administration, go to

Configuration > Spam Filter > Custom Rules

Look through all the rules that check on the "From:" header. One of them probably contains the domains or senders you are rejecting.

Thanks for the reply! I have checked the spam rules and nothing there but if I unchecked the "Block if sender's mail domain was not found in DNS" in SMTP server, they seem to work. why Kerio Connect could not locate their domain names?

That's difficult to say without knowing the sender addresses. If you don't want to mention them in the public forum, you can send me a PM and I can check them.

Still have problem even though uncheched the "Block if sender's mail domain was not in DNS", I just don't know why, messages were delivered but the error still being sent to senders. There's not custom filters. running Kerio connect 8.2.4.

Something is strange when you say that your users get the messages, but the sender (external) gets a message back that the message could not be delivered due to address filtering.

To find the root cause, in the debug log, switch on

SMTP Server
Spam Filter

Then ask the sender to send a mail. Check the debug log and post the relvant information here.

I couldn't figured out what was happening even the smtp log indicated the same 553 5.1.8 error, I went ahead and update Kerio Connect to the latest version 8.3.2 (3100) and it solved my problem. there maybe a software bug in the previous veriosn 8.2.4.

Check your custom spam rules. The ruleset seems to reject this recipient.

There is no rule set to reject this domain, I have only two simple rules to reject if From and Subject is empty.

Please disable those two rules and check if it still happens.
