I tried to install the latest kerio connect on osx 10.9.5 and it complains about lack of java. The system asks me if I want to install version 6. No thanks, downloading v7-56 from java.com and restarts, still same problem.
Doesn't say anything about java at the system requirements page.

What is missed here?

By downloading and running package from java.com you've installed just a browser extension. It allows you to run java applets in web-browsers. The extension is NOT required by Kerio Connect server at all.

What you really need is JRE (Java Runtime Environment). I would stick with the version 6 which is the last one maintained by Apple itself. Check this Apple Support page for details. Otherwise search for 'oracle jre'.

Use following terminal commands to verify which JREs are installed on your system and which is the default one used when running java programs:

1. The default one
/usr/libexec/java_home

2. All
/usr/libexec/java_home -V

Cheers,
