Can you please post your experiences with the "improved speed" on webmail in KMS 6.0.1?
I am curious about it and want to know if i can switch my kms 5 to 6 now.
Thanx

Speed is still a big issue in 6.0.1. I would at least wait until 6.0.2 before switching. A number of bugs are supposed to be fixed in 6.0.2. I hope speed is one of them, but I don't know.....

I recommend waiting for field reports on 6.0.2 before upgrading. Until then, stick with the 5.x series if you don't want your users mobbing you ;)

For me, 6.0.1 is as slow as 6.0.0 over cable. KMS 5.7.10 Web Mail was much faster. Hope next versions are faster.

I am quite happy with GMail from google. It is fast and easy to handle. KMS should at least have a switch, so you can choose from a fast "not so Outlookish" Webmail, or a slow "Outlookish" Webmail.

The thing with GMail is that its speed comes from a large portion of it's "program" being written in complex Javascript and running on the client-side as opposed to on the web server. This is also the main reason why very few browsers are supported by GMail. Many browsers lack the full Javascript breadth being used.

will this be in version 6.0.2?
I had a mail from Kerio support which said:

"There is discussion at the moment regarding a simpler webmail interface that can be used where the main interface is not supported. This will almost certainly be implemented but probably not in the immediate future (I would estimate early 2005 at best). In the mean time, those customers like yourself that require a simpler interface immediately, we are recommending they install squirrelmail or similar until the built in simple webmail is available."

So - don't hold your breath.

That's disappointing to hear......

Personally, I rather not have two interfaces. I rather have this one fixed. I think KMS 6 is a great product, just needs some tweaking. If there is no way to fix the speed, I guess a second "lighter" interface would be ok. One way to help a little in the speed department is to get rid of the scrolling through messages feature and return the page numbers. The scrolling feature was a neat idea, but if you have thousands of emails in a folder, then it is a hassle because of all the IMAP requests it produces (and this slows down the interface).

Also, a feature request is to add a "Next" and "Previous" button on emails that you open in a separate window (not using the reading pane). For people that open messages in separate windows, this is a pain to have to close the window and open the next message (especially when the interface is already so slow).

Just a few thoughts.........

Squirrelmail works quite well with KMS. The only problem I have run into is it won't send an email between domains on the same server. It shows sent in the mail log but it never shows up in the inbox of the other user.
