Is there a way for users to be given an option when their call times out?

We want a caller to be given an option like, press 1 to leave a message, press 2 for assistance (calls the receptionist), or dial any other extension number.

We could set up an auto attendant and set the extension time out to dial this, but we need this to happen for each extension, so that would mean creating an auto attendant for every extension number..

In the Voicemail configuration you can enable a global option for callers to dial 0 to escape and go to some other extension that you specify. In this case, it could be a general menu with options, like reaching the receptionist or dialing another extension. In your voicemail greeting, you can explain to the caller that they can dial 0 to reach the menu.

Thanks Brian, that should be OK. The only problem with it is when I press the 0 key, There is a message saying "please hold while I try that extension" Is there any way to turn this message off so that it goes straight on to the next auto attendant silently?

I agree it should be the standard behavior. There is no reason for this greeting. I have filed a bug regarding this announcement.
