Does this update from 8.5.0 (4416) require a client update/download of the Outlook connector?

Further, if so, is that the case with every update?

Thanks

Klaus

From what I've seen on the upgrades I did (2 servers, 150 mailboxes), yes.

I guess it is.

Depends on your configuration in Advanced Options. If the automatic upgrade is disabled, KOFF is usually not updated In minor releases (eg. 8.5.x). It is however always updated in major version upgrades or when it is required due to changes in synchronization protocol.

I'm running Kerio Connect server under XP. As I've read in 8.5.1 release notes,

* Fulltext and instant messaging services upgraded to Java 8.

I'd like to know if there is a problem applying this update under XP environment due to java 8 lack of support on XP.

Is the indicated item about instant messaging applicable to the server or just to client?

I mean: can I apply the 8.5.1 update on the server (under XP) without problem or should I worry?

Thanks in advance.

I know for a fact that you can install Java 8 on XP and XP will continue to run. It's my understanding that XP does not use Java8 in any way but it can be installed. Since 8.5.1 requires Java8 for fulltext and instant messages, then those services probably will not run. I'll bet it's never been tested because it's not supported by Kerio so why would they? If/when you do test it, let us know.

Thanks Pavel, that's extremely helpful.

I was never sure of that setting assuming each minor update also required matching KOFF. That had slowed me in applying updates (unless security) for the sake of users on the end of slow internet connectivity.

In light of that, it may be helpful to note in the release notes that a certain upgrade will or will not require KOFF update as well.

I was looking for a feature that I lost when migrating from Exchange to Kerio. We have many distribution groups (external people) that out customer service and ordering dept contacts often for various reasons. When a user types in a state abbreviation, it used to auto populate from the GAL the distro or email that matched those characters. Since Kerio is a bit different in how it uses external mailing distros I noticed the distros no longer appeared in the GAL. Also, (this is the feature I am missing), when you would select the distro, it would have a small "+" next to it. Clicking the + expanded the distro to view the contents. Some distros are all encompassing, and for some purposes they do not need to be that full. Is there talk of adding that feature?

@jsnyder:

  • Login to Kerio Client (web mail) as admin.
  • Click on 'Contacts' on the toolbar, then 'Public Folders'/'Contacts'.
  • On the 'new' button, pull down the menu and choose 'Contact Group'
  • Enter the members e-mail addresses. Internal addresses will appear as you type, but you can also add external addresses
  • Save when done

Distros will now behave more like you expect in OutLook, although the first time they are used, you may have to click 'check names'.

Bummer there is no 'Import' button in the client.
