According to the user's manual, on pages 87-88, the alias "*" with redirection to "mail" (or any other user) where "mail" is a defined user, should dump all undeliverable mail into that inbox box, but it doesn't. I still get bounces of any undefined addresses, and even addresses defined under user alises are being bonced.

Mail is "domain-pop" collected from a remote pop server where all incoming mail goes into one account, "mail<at>mydomain.com", and then collected by KMS.

Never mind... I figured it out.

Sorting in domain-POP is only via the "Sorting Rules" tab of the POP3 Download menu. User aliases defined under individual users are ignored, as are the domain aliases.

To have a catch-all for domain-POP you define a similar "*" redirect (sorting rule) to the catch-all mailbox. It seems it would make more sense if after running through the list of POP3-Download sorting rules KMS would drop down to the domain and user aliases before determining the message is undeliverable. It seems the domain and user aliases are only used for incoming SMTP delivery.
