Over the past few weeks we have seen Kerio go out of control with memory and CPU, until the system stops functioning. This seems to be happening mid morning with no end in sight. The server is a Windows 2012 with 16GB of memory. It is a virtual machine living on an EMC VNX disk array. Support is telling us that it is disk IO on the SAN and nothing to do with the software. If we kill the Kerio services, the machine will run normal. Starting the software, the machine resources start climbing immediately. We have run metrics and the disk isn't high on the SAN.

Any thoughts?

Just because killing the Kerio process results in less memory or CPU usage, it does not mean that this isn't a disk I/O problem. I've seen this happen quite a bit when there's an I/O problem. How many users are on your server, and how are they connecting to it?

We have the same problem across 5 servers...

Started happening when we moved from 7.X to 8.X ..

All running on ESX/Centos6.

Finally just setup a reboot in the middle of the nite and the problem has been band-aided..

This is definitely something that merits contacting Kerio support. If you believe that there is another cause other than what they're telling you, you should contact them again to continue pursuing this. Kerio support is great, but sometimes they're wrong. I believe that they will help make this right in the end.

Agreed...

But to be honest we are looking at a replacement ...

Since Kerio's purchase of GetSynced we are uncomfortable offering a hosted system that is basically competing against us.

Hi Robert,

To be perfectly clear regarding the acquisition of GetSync'd there are two key things we'd like to address in order to eliminate confusion:

1. We want, and need, our resellers to help us as we always have - either by selling our Kerio Cloud licenses or by hosting their own infrastructure and selling licenses, or by selling on-premises deployments. All three options are still available for our partners to choose from.

2. Kerio Cloud means we are going to be investing in our cloud infrastructure which will directly benefit our hosting partners.
Some of the things that hosting partners have had to work around when hosting Kerio Connect are going to be addressed. Specifically, SSL certificates per domain, and per domain configuration.

Hosting partners furthermore have individual value to offer. They know their own customers and their own customer's needs. There will be customers that will embrace having a hosting partner set up the infrastructure in their 'home town'. Hosting partners can also add their own custom options to their hosted infrastructure: archiving, spam, antivirus etc that work specifically for their set of customers.

I hope you'll take this into consideration and continue to support Kerio and offer it to your customers in whatever fashion makes sense for you and your audience.

Thanks Ken! I never had any doubts about this acquisition. I've been working with GetSync'd part time in addition to my Think Fixed duties for over a year. The services being provided will still be as awesome as they've always been, maybe better since Kerio will be able to bring additional resources into the mix. In a way this isn't much different from when Kerio started the cloud service in late 2012/early 2013. It's just going to be better now since GetSync'd did such a great job putting together the right infrastructure to make it all work.

When we first contacted Kerio support they were stating that we had too much email in users mail boxes. There were telling us that no user should have more than 5000 emails in a folder or 10000 emails in nested folders. Several of our users have tens of thousands of emails in a folder, and the high CPU was the indexing that Kerio does frequently and that is why it only happened at certain times of the day.
What we think we concluded is that one of our ESXi hosts had a saturation iSCSI NIC, which is effectively disk I/O, or lack of getting to the disk. We had two very heavy disk writing/storing servers that lived on the same ESXi host as Kerio. We moved the Kerio server to another ESXi host and we haven't had the problem since.
