Hi Folks,

strage behaviour in out-of-office function:

Our Kerio Connect users are part of some 3rd party mailing lists (not at our Kerio Connect Server).

Now it seems that Kerio Connect out-of-office responds also to mails not sent to one user itself by sending back the out-of-office note to the address of the mailing list.

Example:
Kerio Connect User: user<_at_>example.com
Mailing-List: list<_at_>somelist.com
To-address of the original Mail sent to the list: list<_at_>somelist.com
From-address of the original Mail sent to the list: someuser<_at_>gmail.com
Out-of-office reply from user@example.com is sent to: list<_at_>somelist.com

This can't be the intended behaviour...
Shouldn't the out-of-office reply only be sent if user<_at_>example.com was in To- or CC-Header?
And shouldn't it also only be sent back to the From-header or the Reply-To-header if present?

Best,
Silverstar

EDIT: Running Kerio Connect 9.0.1 (394).

We do not know if Sender or Reply-To header was in the message so I cannot answer that.

Thanks.

Kerio Connect Out Of Office responder is driven by RFC 3834. So it sends a response to Return-Path email address (MAIL FROM from SMTP envelope - https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3834 chapter 4).

That mailing list uses Microsoft's proprietary X-Auto-Response-Suppress email header and not email headers recommended by RFCs (eg. Auto-Submitted or Precendence - these are recognized by Kerio Connect).
We can add support for detecting X-Auto-Response-Suppress email header to future Kerio Connect versions.

Hi Pavel,

It's a standard MS Exchange server from a big company.

That would we great!

I understand that supporting MS' proprietary way is PITA... but it would make the life much more easy and wouldn't break the standard way IMHO Wink

If you don't like to support the MS headers it could also be a solution to add an option to the out of office responder to only respond on mails sent directly to one of the addresses of the users mailbox (TO, CC).

Best,
Silverstar

Sometimes you want to get Out Of Office response also from other recipients added by you as Bcc. These are usually not mentioned in email headers (To, Cc).

Good point.
Then we're back to support the MS headers Smile
