We are spending a lot of time fighting spam...

analysing the spam mails that do not get tagged...then tweaking the anti-spam settings in Kerio and even using custom SA rules...but then a new spam run comes along...and it's like starting over...

This is getting too involving for us lately and we are not getting the results we hopped for...
So...we want to throw money at it and use a professional anti-spam system of some sort and be done with it once and for all (hopefully)

After some research we ended up with the hosted (Cloud?) SAAS; The Email Laundry

In there setup instructions we need to limit our incoming SMTP port 25 to except only incoming email from The Email Laundry servers (after they washed the nasty stuff out for us)

But my bet is this goes for port 465 (secure SMTP) as well
but what about port 587 (SMTP submission) im still not sure what SMTP submission is the be honest...

any ideas?

with kind regards!

You don't need to use any of the traditional ports.

IMO you should configure SMTP to only accept traffic from The Email Laundry IP's on an obscure port such as 2525. This will reduce the amount of traffic to your server considerably and significantly reduce the resource requirement of your server as you can close port 25 completely

In such case configure your SMTP service to allow access only from certain IP addresses (http://kb.kerio.com/1153). You can leave SMTP Submission open as it requires user authentication and user clients need to use this port to send emails through your server.
You can disable secure SMTP on port 465 as it is obsolete for many years and is not usually used by clients.

I would recommend joining our beta program or wait few weeks so you can evaluate a big change in our anti-spam filtering.
