We currently run Kerio Connect 9.0.3 on a single physical server. We have 660 active mailboxes so the server is pretty busy.
Although we have considered Multi-Server, we are not prepared to go that route.
In an effort to offload the traffic from one box, we are thinking about bringing up a separate physical box to handle all of the SMTP traffic.

Is it worth doing this?
Does my licensing allow me to install Kerio Connect on a second box?
I've seen the SMTP configuration portion in the Admin Guide but am not clear on which server the SMTP settings would be configured and how to configure the settings on the SMTP server. Is there a separate document outlining this configuration?

Hi Ruta,

If you wanted to run a second Kerio Connect server you would need a second licence as each Kerio licence is only allowed to be installed on one machine.

With you having that many users it might be worth considering the multi-server route eventually. In the meantime have a look at this KB article:

http://kb.kerio.com/1167

This shows you how you would configure the SMTP relay in your main Kerio to forward to another server (or another Kerio Server).

I hope this helps a bit,
Vicky

Ruta -- you should consider getting either an on-prem spam filter appliance, to contract with one of the companies that provide such service. Here, we use SpamTitan. All inbound and outbound SMTP traffic goes through it. We have the benefit of not having to do spam filtering (or at least, as much) on the kerio server, and a second layer of anti-virus. Three really, sinc SpamTitan has Clam & kaspersky, and Kerio Connect has Sophos.
