Hi, yesterday I received a load of emails from one of our email accounts.

They were clearly spam and not sent by the user, however I am concerned whether this means the account has actually been hacked.

I know you can spoof email addresses to make it look like it has come from someone when it hasn't, but in this case the email had our footer which is added by the server.

I checked the account in question and the emails I received were not in the sent folder.

I'm just curious as to what is likely to have happened here and how to prevent it.

I have already told the user to change the password as a precaution, but how do I determine if someone has actually hacked into the account and sent email using our server or if they have just replicated our footer and spoofed the address?

Thanks
Kev
