Our mail domain is abc.com and all our users have accounts on it. Our AD Domain is abc.net. some users are configured in AD to have an account in abc.net. How do I create an alias on Kerio connect to say that any mail destined for user<_at_>abc.net to go to user at abc.com. there are no MX records for .net.

If you have no MX records for abc.net, no external email for abc.net will ever reach your mail server, so setting up an alias does not accomplish anything.

You have to set up an MX record for abc.net pointing to your mail server and then add abc.net as an alias of abc.com.

Setting up the alias is fairly easy. In the admin console, go to the domain settings, find the 'aliases' tab and add it. Now 'user@abc.com' and 'user@abc.net' are equivalent, and either address will goto 'user<_at_>abc.com'. I often advise adding <ad-domain>.local as well.

This is useful if a 'abc.net' destination address is somehow plucked out of AD, and the sending user/program uses the Kerio Connect server for outbound. No MX record is required, Kerio will simply deliver the message.

If any internal users/systems are not using KC for outbound, then either an MX record will be required, or a static delivery route of "'abc.net' = deliver via Kerio" will need to be configured on the other outbound server.

To allow people outside your organization to use the 'abc.net' address, then you will need to register and configure the 'abc.net' zone, dns servers, etc.

It was actually easier than I thought. I just went to my primary domain and under aliases, I created abc.net. The .net traffic only comes from internal sources, example linux servers send alerts to root<_at_>abc.net instead of .com.
