Hello all,

we are using Kerio 9.2 in our company. Once we are using BlackBerry phones, push notifications going well. No delay in delivery of emails. When I switch to iPhone SE I noticed delay. Sometimes the delay is horrible - 45 minutes for example. Of course push notification enable on iPhone.

Is there something wrong with iPhone devices or somethong special in septup in Kerio?

What about Android phones? Any experience with push notifications?

Thanks for your answer.

Are you using ActiveSync or IMAP to connect to Kerio Connect?

If you use ActiveSync, it will push new messages instantly to your phone.

On the iPhones, there is an issue: If the mail app is in the background for a certain amount of time, or not started at all, it will not receive push notifications. You would then need to use Apple's APN Service:

With the Blackberries, the email app is always open (Blackberry Hub), so they get push notifications all the time.

For Android, ActiveSync push should work all the time.

Kerio Connect does not use the Apple APN infrastructure, so you can't really use it.

Yes, it does. For Apple IMAP, CalDAV and CardDAV clients (both iOS and OS X). Push uses Apple's APN.
For Exchange ActiveSync, the client creates a permanent keep-alive connection to the server.

OK, sorry, I did not look at IMAP.

With ActiveSync you have the problem that the permanent keep-alive connection does not work anymore if the Mail app is in the background for a certain amount of time.

This is not a Kerio issue, it's how iOS handles apps. You have the same problem with Exchange.

A solution might be to use an MDM solution that supports APN.

Or you switch from ActiveSync to IMAP as Pavel Dobry points out.
