Hi,

We have KMS running behind a gateway, and have SpamAssassin on but not BitDefender. Some bad emails still gets through; the vast majority of which is phishing/malware ("Update your account" kind of stuff).

I've read some mixed things about BitDefender but they may have been referring to earlier releases of KMS, so I'm wondering:

- In 9.2.1 are you using BitDefender and does it seem to be preventing a significantly greater number of attacks than would be blocked with just SpamAssassin?

- What does it do to your bandwidth? I assume that since it sends every message to BitDefender's servers, every email is received then sent back out, doubling the traffic used by Kerio. Have you seen any performance hits (with kerio or other services using the WAN) from this?

- Since it doesn't user the spam/notSpam user actions; how do you handle BitDefender mistakes? I'm mostly concerned with false positives and I need to be able to immediately whitelist a sender or otherwise get the message to the staff member who needs it.

I've read the articles and what else I could find; I'm really looking for practical real-world benefits & drawbacks.

Thanks,

Jeff

It does not send full messages to Bitdefender servers. Take a look at http://kb.kerio.com/1886 for more details about how it works and what data are used for lookup in cloud.
