Latest Kerio Antivirus (powered by Bitdefender technologies) detect the known variations of the WannaCry ransomware. Virus is distributed usually as email attachment, once it starts on a computer, it spreads in local network via SMB, looking for vulnerable Windows machines. By nature, this spreading in LAN cannot be detected nor stopped by a network perimeter firewall.

Earlier this March, Microsoft released a patch for MS17-010 that blocks this exploitation avenue, but an unknown number of computers around the world - including those running unsupported versions of Windows - have not got it, and risk getting impacted anytime.
In order to minimize the risk, we advise deploying the MS17-010 hotfix and having the AV engines up to date.
