How do people keep a record of the phone system's configuration in terms of how calls are received and handled? We need a system where we can document a phone systems configuration and easily update it if it changes, but also be easy enough for a client to understand how the calls are handled.

Visio looks like it would be OK to create a flow chart of a call, but it is not very easy to use and not very flexible for big changes.

We sometimes use block diagrams written in Visio or by hand when designing the system, but sometimes it is best to just figure it out when the change is needed.

Would be a great feature for Operator to have a flow diagram created on the fly like Avaya systems can.

Agreed, that would definitely be the best bet. It's not really that we can't figure it out once it's set up, more that some customers want to see what's happening with their calls currently, so that they can decide how they might want to change things for the better.

Then as I said, block diagrams using Visio or other diagraming software of your choice is the best we found.
