We have a subscriber to one of our services whose e-mail address has a tilde in it, like this (not the actual address):

richard.duñiga<_at_>something.com

It seems that when that address is submitted to our Kerio server the accented character is stripped out, so the message is sent to:

richard.duiga<_at_>something.com

which bounces.

Is this expected behavior? Everything I've read says the tilde is an acceptable character for e-mail.

Running 9.2.5 patch 3 (3336) on Windows Server 2008.

While a tilde on its own is allowed, a character with a tilde on top of it is not, because this is not standard ASCII.

So for emails addresses, just use the character n without the tilde.

There is a relatively new SMTP extension (SMTPUTF8) that enables delivery using international characters, however it's not supported by Kerio Connect and most other MTAs. Some details here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_SMTP#SMTPUTF8
You can request this feature at feedback.gfi.com. Unfortunately it seems nobody has requested this feature.
