Hello!

I just want to pick up on the Windows/Outlook performance topic again. Customers complain about slow E-Mail search and delays when they switch between folders or from the E-Mail-View into the Calendar view etc. Those performance issues are a topic since several years. Now we have customers that seriously consider to switch back to Exchange.

The performance of the Kerio Outlook connector hasn't been improved since many years. Don't get me wrong, Kerio Connect is a great product, but in connection with Outlook and Windows the lack of performance is really annoying. Most of the Windows Customers don't want to use the Webinterface or the Kerio Connect Client and insist of using Outlook, especially customers that switched from Exchange to Kerio.

I don't understand why this problem seems not to be a subject of improvement? Are there at least any plans to address this issue in future?

Thanks,

René

(IMHO Mode on)
This all started years ago when the "offline connector" became the only way to connect Outlook to Kerio connect. If GFI wants to make serious points, they should bring back the "on-line connector". For those who've never heard of it, it used IMAP & SMTP for mail message management, with a tiny connector stub to handle calendar, contact, and task managment.
(/IMHO mode)
I understand that some users need 24x7 access to their mail store, even when they don't have an internet connection. Fine, they can continue to use KOFF. The rest of us really want the speed that would come from the on-line connector.

Would be great to have fast search in Outlook with KOFF.

Hi all, good news! The new Kerio Connect release (ETA end of this month) will have this improvement, KOFF performance in search speeds.

More info once the version is published, on http://www.kerio.com/support - select "Product Updates"

Yes, I am very curious where you received this info on this release on Kerio Connect due at the end of this month. I am very concerned that there has not been an update to Kerio Connect in over five months, and not found any info on their website that we have a release coming.

That being said, making Kerio Outlook Connector faster would be a big help to us. This is the #1 complaint for users.

If delivered by the end of the month, this would align with the web cast that was done last fall, where we were told that Connect would be getting a new message database that would significantly improve search speed. I believe the wording used then was "early 2018"

Connect getting a new database may mean the server and doesn't necessarily mean KOFF. Unless they specifically mentioned it in the web cast.

However, on the suggest an idea page, I was encouraged to see that the "Improve - speed up Outlook connector KOFF" was marked as started 7 days ago. Hopefully they didn't just start working on it 7 days ago, because it will probably be a while until we see that change released.

we are using Kerio on a Ubuntu server connecting to more than 200 Windowes clients (Windows 7, 8.1 and 10) using Outlook 2010, 2013 and 2016 for like 10 years now so I can provide some experience.

If you have really big boxes, 5 or 6 digit mail figures you really need to have fast I/O on the client machine. Kerio caches the mails including attachments locally in a store file that gets really big really fast. Over time the performance gets slower because the connector needs to sort in and sort out all the changes in the mail structure to this store file. In the beginning this file got also "corrupted" quite often and you had to resync aka "clean" the store locally quite often. Those times are thankfully gone.
What you can do and what helped us a lot was to exchange the slow stock harddrives in our clients to SSDs for the power user (people with like 100k+ and more mails in their account). That got rid of the "no response" window title in Outlook waiting for the connector to get response from the local store immediately.
Also be aware that if you set the hold times for attachments in the client configuration too short, every launch in the morning takes quite a while because of the "maintenance" behind that. We set this to 180 days (which I think is the default nowadays). If you got space going for 360 or 720 (depending how long you keep mails at all) might reduce load and folder switching times.
Also be aware that the warning that logging (under maintenance) slows down performance should be taken seriously. It really slows down the client over time.
