Forgive me if this is in the archives, but I didn't see it if it does...

Almost all of my entourage users with POP accounts are getting this type of error:

[01/Feb/2005 11:17:33] Failed POP3 login from 192.168.1.1, user foobar<_at_>foobar.org

(name and address are faked obviously)

They can connect, they are getting their mail, but I'd like to keep this out of my log files... Anyone have a lead on this?

to clarify, I'm running 6.06, and the users are not getting error messages, but I am seeing the errors in my log files.

In your Admin Console, under "Advanced Options," select the "Security Policy" tab.
In the section titled "Enabled authentication methods," try turning off the methods that are not being used in your organization.

This may solve the issue for Entourage users, but I'm pretty sure that Mail.app users will still generate the POP error message (with Mail.app using its default authentication).

Cheers,
Lyle

Turning off MD5 solved a problem we were having with Eudora not connecting, but even when I turn everything off Entourage (w/POP) still logs the error.

Should be noted that IMAP doesn't thow the error... Nor does exchange...

People are getting their mail though, so its more irritating then problematic.

I agree, it is irritating. I'd much rather reserve the log for "real" errors/issues.

I'm going to experiment with the other authentication types to see if they eliminate our POP errors. I guess it wouldn't hurt to use encrypted authentication.

Good luck. Sorry this didn't help.
