Scenario:

I have an everybody<_at_>domain.com email group that all users are members of. However, I want to restrict the group so that only members of the group can send an email to it.

Example:

User<_at_>domain.com can send email to everybody<_at_>domain.com but Foreign<_at_>notourdomain.com cannot send to the everybody<_at_>domain.com account.

Is this possible to do? If so, how?

NOTE: Kerio KMS 6.0.7

Yes, we just set that up on ours. We made a mailing list and put everyone in the mailing list that is supposed to be in it. It keeps everyone else out and works really good. Try it. BTW, tech support is the one who suggested it.

So you're setting up a mailing list to use it like a distribution group?

The only thing I don't like about that initially is that I'd have two different sorts of groups then - those that I administer from active directory, and those that are mail lists within KMS. Hrm. That could confuse the heck out of me.

I'll look at it though.

That's an interesting solution. I've been looking for an answer to the same problem since switching to Kerio yesterday but I want many of our groups to be contactable from non-members within the domain but not from external addresses.

I guess for an (everybody) style address the idea will work fine.

It would be great to have a simple checkbox to stop external domains from sending email to the mail groups.

Yes. It certainly would.

It's one of those things you wouldn't miss unless - like me - you switch from a mail server (Gordano) that has it implemented like that.

In Gordano each group has a selector for "Group can be mailed by" and selections for "Everyone", "all users on domain", "Only members of group", "Only administrators", etc.

Would be super nice to see it done here.

Suggestion (have not tried this personally):
Put in spam filter to ignore messages originating internally at high priority.
Add spam filter to block messages to everyone group at lower priority.
So if sent by internal user, it gets passed on but external mail gets filtered out.
