HI,

I'm having some problems with enabeling sophos AV in KMS:

When enabeling the function Use external antivirus i'm getting the error Antivirus started but failed to find EICAR test virus.

The following lines appear in the log :

[09/May/2005 16:52:57][1012] {avir} Server: request for file C:\Program Files\Kerio\MailServer\store/tmp/eicar.com (avfile.com)
[09/May/2005 16:52:57][1012] {avir} Server: result for file C:\Program Files\Kerio\MailServer\store/tmp/eicar.com: (0) File could not be accessed
[09/May/2005 16:52:57][1012] {avir} Server: waiting for request...
[09/May/2005 16:52:57][1756] {avir} Client: check result: (0) File could not be accessed
[09/May/2005 16:53:03][1012] {avir} Server: old plugin stopped

and the option Do not use antivirus is selected.

What version os Sophos AV are you using ? I am using currently vesion 5.0.1 Enterprise Version and works ok with KMS 6.0.9.

Are you using on access scanning?

Yes I'm using on access scanning but with the tmp dir excluded.

I'm using the latest versions of SAV version 3.93.0,Engine 2.29.4, Virus Data 3.39 KMS 6.0.9

It always worked fine but since an week or two i'm getting this error.

I don't have this problem with Sophos Enterprise Solutions. However, we installed KMS 6.0.9 with a Sophos Small Business Edition today and we had the same problem as you.

Then I think the problem is in within Sophos

The answer from Sophos

Hello Rob,

Thank you for contacting Sophos.

Eicar.com is a standard testfile to test the functionality of virus
scanners. It is possible that Kerio has a feature to test the scanning
therefore it has a copy of eicar.com.

We had a problem with version 3.93 with third party software. Could you try
to revert to version 3.92?

The problem will be resolved in the next update.

I forwarded this issue to Sophos. It is strange that it works with the Sophos Enterprise Solutions 5.0.1 and not with others.

For Sophos on Linux there has been an update. But this doesn't resolve my issue on KMS for Windows.

ADVISORY: Sophos Anti-Virus for Unix - issues with Sophos Anti-Virus version 3.93 Issues have been found with Sophos Anti-Virus for Unix version 3.93 (released May 2005), which may affect third-party applications that run on UNIX and Linux platforms.

If you have installed Sophos Anti-Virus for Unix version 3.93 you should upgrade immediately to version 3.93.2.

I'm downgreading to 3.92. Perhaps that solves the problem on windows.

This is reply of the issue by Kerio Tech support.




This is bug 8235. We are trying to resolve it. You can try deleting the eicar test file in /store/tmp.

Just installes version Sophos AV 3.94 -> problem solved...:-)
