When you connect with certain IMAP clients, they just mark the message as deleted, instead of moving it to a Deleted folder. If I'm not mistaken, Expunge clears out all messages marked as deleted.

Well, I am in the process of translating the system into Danish, and we dont have an exactly word for expunge.

Would it be like: "Remove marked items from folder" or "Delete marked items from folder" ??

If "clear" or "remove" ? where will they go then?

For your purposes, perhaps the word "purge" is the closest match. "Purge" the folder of deleted mesasges.

Well, purge will be something like "Clean up". But what will happen to the marked mails?

When you delete e-mails with imap, your client e.g. outlook express flags them as deleted, but will still display them. When you hit Purge/Expunge the mailserver really deletes those items.

To clarify:
When an IMAP client clicks the Delete button for a message, in IMAP, the message is marked as deleted (with a line through it in webmail), and depending on your client, it can actually move that message to the Deleted Items folder. Some clients auto-enxpunge, (Outlook with KOC [but this might be because it is IMAP over MAPI], and the Kerio webmail client.)
Clients like Thunderbird do not auto-expunge. Therefore, if you delete items in Thunderbird and check in webmail, you will see that your messages appear as strike through "duplicates". Once you have expunged the folder, the "duplicates" will disappear, as the transaction has completed.
