Hello all,

What would you like to see in the KMS FAQ?

FAQ articles do not cover specific bugs; they cover solutions to common problems and situations that are not immediately clear how to setup or configure the product.

Please post any suggestions you have.

Cheers,
Joshua Thomas

Two that come to mind right away that I've seen a number of times:
Can I/How do I run KMS Webmail on IIS or Apache
Can I/How do I customize Webmail

Hm, I should have also liked to our KB.

Here it is: http://support.kerio.com/?_a=knowledgebase

> Can I/How do I run KMS Webmail on IIS or Apache

I'm sure you know this isn't possible (KMS uses own webserver) =)

Article 288 - http://support.kerio.com/kb/288 - covers running IIS and KMS together. I guess we need one to cover WebMail under IIS/Apache.

> Can I/How do I customize Webmail

That's covered under article 23: http://support.kerio.com/kb/23

I know they're in the KB, but they come up in the forums regularly. Thus, it's a Frequently Asked Question. No?

Yes, it's true. Perhaps I should have asked "what do you want to see in KB"?

I added KB article for WebMail under IIS/Apache - http://support.kerio.com/kb/304

Workaround question:
How can I use the Webserver from Kerio to add my own pages additional to Webmail?

Other question:
What Webserver is used in Kerio and where can I get it? It seem to be a small but powerfull Webserver. If you could give this information I would install it on another server for our Webpages instead of IIS...

I would like to see a 'best practises backup and restore procedure'. I know there is a KB article, but I believe that this is dated.

One of the reasons I have gone with KMS, is because of this feature and it would be interesting to see how Kerio perform a restore.

> How can I use the Webserver from Kerio to add my own pages additional to Webmail?

Correct question is "Can I use the Webserver from Kerio to add my own pages additional to Webmail?"

Answer is no. Content of WebMail and HTTP engine are tightly coupled and user-added content is not in the design or the support of the product.

> What Webserver is used in Kerio and where can I get it?

This is confidential property of Kerio. Webserver is not available for stand-alone use.

Actually if you just put your web content into the \webmail folder it is served by KMS's webserver.

Obviously you are very limited in terms of configuration but it does work. Our basic intranet site is hosted by KMS' sandboxed http daemon.

Yes, it may work. Support for anything other than basic HTML is limited. And if it breaks, you can't complain =)

As the HTTP server is mainly for webmail's benefit, we may change internals without notice for webmail. It's really not recommended.

The ability to flush the DNS cache manually instead of restarting KMS would be very useful.

I would like to see the FAQ made "useful". It seems like so many company-based FAQs are: few, boilerplate, obvious, and simplifications of what's already in the product manual.

Usually, community-based FAQ efforts eclipse the company-based ones, so I wonder if this should be community-driven?

Kerio MailServer 6.7.1 w/AD
Windows Server 2003 SP 1
Dell PowerEdge 2850 (Dual Xeon 3.2ghz and 2 GB RAM)
~1300 users
~1000+ concurrent IMAPS connections
iPhone users
Outlook 2007 KOFF users
Apple iCal 10.5/10.6 users

Hi Joshua !

My only suggestion for KMS FAQ (and other information chanels from kerio - like forum(s), announcements, news,...-) is RSS, RSS and RSS.
I know i don't provide a very valuable feedback on the FAQ "topics" you're waiting for but, for us, the ability to agregate informations on our technical intranet is vital ... and actually kerio is the only IT "supplier" who doesn't provide this !

Best regards,
Pierre
