This is a fairly new installation and when testing I telnet to smtp and noticed an odd smtp greeting, I changed the names and IPs, but the 220 line is untouched:

Quote:

mypc:~ myusername$ telnet mailserver.mydomain.com 25
Trying 11.22.33.44...
Connected to mailserver.mydomain.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 **************************************************0 *******************

I have the option to not show program name and verison unchecked (ie, it should show it). If I do check it, then there's nothing after the 0.

That's a PIX firewall.

SMTP greeting seems to be modified by 3rd party software (SMTP protocol inspector, application gateway or antivirus). All characters in the greeting are replaced with '*'.
