I have put my tasks in a tree structure and used catagories to indicate them. Imagin this tree:

Tasks
|-Customer A
| |Task 1 - category=2do
| |Task 2 - category=in progress
| |Task 3 - category=done
|-Customer B
| |Task 1 - category=2do
| |Task 2 - category=in progress
| |Task 3 - category=done
|-Customer C
| |Task 1 - category=2do
| |Task 2 - category=in progress
| |Task 3 - category=done

In fact there are two things I want to do now:

1. I want to see all tasks in the "full" tree that have a certain category.
e.g. I want to see all tasks with category "2do" for all customers

2. In a certain folder I only want to see task of a certain category.
e.g. In the folder Customer B I only want to see the "2do" tasks.

For point 2 this could be solved with the possibility to add the column "catagory" to the view so you could sort on that column. It's not exactly filtering but it would help.
