I have just installed the mailserver for linux

Is there a gui?

In the admin read me it says to check tcp -lp but from the printout
below I am unsure how to proceed as a) I do not a full understanding of what the printout indicates and it srrms I MIGHT
have to uninstall some programes first any suggestions welcome.

Yes, there is a gui. Download and install the admin console.

The below is checking to see if the server is running, what ports are listening, and what process they are mapped to.

thankyou for your post.

I have installed the admin package.

I was wondering from my first post which mail
services that you can see from my last need to
be stopped so that kerio can function properly.
and how do I stop these other services.

If you're on redhat, stop and disable the sendmail services using the below commands or via webmin if you installed it.

service sendmail stop
chkconfig sendmail off

You can then start up the kerio mailserver.

service keriomailserver start

If you telnet to your mailserver on port 25, what server answers?

If it's kerio mailserver, then your ok.

If not look at the reply from the mailserver and find out what is running.

If you see something like 220 <mailserver> ESMTP Sendmail 8.12.11/8.12.11, then it's sendmail. ESMTP Postfix (2.3-20060112) is postfix, and so on.

You can also run "ps aux" and look through the running processes. From your posts, it doesn't sound like sendmail is running though.
