I would suggest to open a new topic under kerio webmail to discuss about that huge world of spam and spamassassin.
I got so many question about that and there's nothing at Spamassassin' site related to kerio webmail server.
Just few example:
  • how to configure local outlook to teach online kerio about spam;
  • how to configure spamassassin (rules, updates, tests, etc);
  • what about other mailreader like thunderbird and spamtag;
  • etc etc

I also suggest to have a specific forum to talk about logs question and error codes and webmail use/configuration.
so what do you guys think about?
thanx in advance

You can teach kerio (Spam Assassin) spam from outlook by dragging the spam into the spam folder. In Entourage there is a "Spam" button that does this. Outlook may have somethign similar.

You shouldn't need to configure spam assassin. You can however add rules and tweak some of the existing rules. I suggest reading (on Spam Assassin's website) how the rules work. The idea is the same although when you upgrade kerio you will need to make the changes again as they will be erased.

Rules are stored in /opt/kerio/mailserver/spamassassin/rules

If you want to add a rule download it and put it in this directory. You may need to restart KMS to have spamassassin use the rule.

Be careful using downloaded rules. You should always test them before putting them on a live server. KMS ships with the most stable rules for spamassassin.

first thanks for the reply but i think we need more information about this thing.
i've already seen Spamassassin' website and learned a little about Rules (for example: for sure you need to restart Kerio to make changes work but you should not loose your changes if you modify local.cf)
About Outlook: what would happen if a user flag a mail as spam?
does this rule work for everybody (different users and domains) or just for that user?
is there a particular config file for each user?
Are only Outlook and Enturage capable of this?

You are right in that there should be more documentation. With Kerio's upgrade patterns your changes may or may not be overwritten. I simply wanted to state that they may.

Kerio currently uses server wide bayes learning so when user<_at_>domain1.com specifies that message 1 is spam, userb<_at_>domain2.com sees the affects of this. Currenly, KMS does not feature domain or user bayes databases by default or with any setting. I guess it would be possible (anything is possible) to add this feature in but you would be on your own.

When a user flags a message as spam/non-spam it is put in/taken out of the junk email folder. Kerio sees this and then puts the message into the spam/ham (not spam) database.

Just a note, we do not support direct modification of the SpamAssassin rules, so if you add your own rules, and it causes issues with your server, we would not be able to assist you in that case.

You can always "reset" SpamAssassin by stopping KMS, renaming the 'spamassassin' folder, running the KMS intaller with the Repair option and restarting KMS. This will reset the Bayes filter and set all of the default spam rules.

of course i understand that you do not support direct modification of the SpamAssassin rules but do you confirm at least that modifying local.cf is the best way to operate instead of modify other rules like 70_sare_html0.cf for example?

to: thanx i get your point and i can also accept a unique spam rate and policy for the server.

so it goes my question: how can i teach kerio for my users? If most of my clients doesn't use outlook or kerio webmail what can i do? Actually i've configured kerio to block spam (talking about x-spam Spamassassin) and to send the message to me so i can check for errors.
this brings me two question:
1)the spam message is sent as attachement so i can't figure out the X-Spam-Status with values (i can only look into kerio spam logs for total not partial values)
2)the only way to fix a wrong spam message is to upload the *.eml into user folder and delete index

You can move the offending message to the junk mail folder (IMAP only) from any mail client and it will be learned. Outlook and Entourage just provide a button that does this for you. Have you users just move the message to spam or junk mail.

No, KMS maintains one big database for the learned Bayes words. So it is not per user.

[Edit: I just saw that this was already answered, I think IE cache played a trick on me]
