We are in the process of moving from Imail to Kerio. And one question i have is regarding the virtual domain. We host mail for about 5 virtual domains. In the past years, my company has bought several smaller companies and even though we've given them our companies email, we still have their mx records pointed to our domain.

So we now have these virtual domains forwarded to our main domain.
So for example, let's say we hosted mail for waterstravel.com as a virtual domain and our main domain was tvlcon.com. We have a user, Robert<_at_>waterstravel.com and he is being forwarded to rsmith<_at_>tvlcon.com etc.

So, in Kerio, i would create the virtual domain and then under the user, i would create an alias of Robert so that any email that came to Robert also went to rsmith, no matter what the domain was.

However, what if i have another virtual domain, let's say example.com, and i have a user with example.com who is also robert<_at_>example.com and he is being forwarded to rjones<_at_>tvlcon.com.

What would Kerio do? I couldn't create an alias for rjones of Robert because that's already taken by rsmith.

I am new to Kerio so i may be totally confused. I hope this makes sense and doesn't sound too jumbled what i'm getting at.

I guess i'm wondering is there a better way to associate or build the user under the virtual domain?

Why don't you just add an additional real domain (vs alias for primary) and then setup all the users and forward them to your current domains acct. The only problem with this is that is easier not to have to maintain all those extra domains and accounts.

If we did it this way, would those extra users count against our licenses?

Have you looked at the domain alias under the domain settings? You can specify b.com as an alias for a.com. Then, anything coming in for jsmith<_at_>b.com OR jsmith<_at_>a.com would be delivered to the same mailbox.
