Hi,

short question: i'm planing a "small" mailserver for an office with about 20 users. Cause of not enough space in our rack for another xserver, i think about using an older G4 Quicksilver (we are going to relocate the office in about 6 to 8 month, so it's an interim solution):

G4 1,25 GHz
SATA controller with two 80 GB HD
about 1 GB of memory

Alternatively maybe i can get an G5, 1,8 GHz desktop.

As i said, there will be about 20 users on the server, with about 80 to 100 GB of data on it.

Thanks for Your suggestions!

This will be absolutely fine - I was running mine on a 400MHz G4 for about 50 users with no issue. For mail servers speed of hard disk is the most important factor.

Hope that helps

I am running on a Dual 1GHz, with 2 SATA disks, one for they system and one for the mailstore. It's working fine at the moment, but I am considering moving to RAID5 with a RocketRaid controller as performance is dropping the more KOC users I add. We are currently at 12 KOC users, 5 IMAP users and about 15 webmail only users. Total message store is currently 18Gb. Hope this was of some use....
